Reader — Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 September 2026. These terms cover the paper reader at saurav717.github.io/reader/ — “the app” below. How it handles data is a separate page: the privacy policy.
What this is
A personal project, offered free of charge, with its source public at github.com/saurav717/reader. It is a static page that runs entirely in your browser: there is no service behind it, no account, and nothing for anyone to sign up to.
Using it
You may use the app for your own research and reading. In doing so you agree to:
- obtain papers only in ways the sources allow — arXiv, the publishers and the indexes the app searches each have their own terms, and respecting them is yours to do;
- not use the app to redistribute material you do not have the right to redistribute;
- keep any credentials you paste into Settings — a Google account, a Git token, a proxy address — under your own control. They stay in your browser, so whoever can use that browser can use them.
If you run your own copy, or deploy the PDF proxy the app can use, that copy is yours to operate and these terms do not govern it.
No warranty
The app is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. It may be wrong, it may be unavailable, and it may stop working when something it depends on changes.
It is not a backup. Your library lives in your browser’s storage, which the browser itself may clear. Connecting Google Drive keeps a copy in your own Drive, which is the only copy anyone is keeping.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the app, including lost data, lost time or anything that happens to the files it writes to your Drive.
Not affiliated
The app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google, arXiv, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Crossref, Unpaywall, GitHub, or any publisher whose papers it can open. Their names are used only to say what it talks to.
Changes and availability
The app may change or be taken down at any time, without notice. If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and every edit is public in the repository for this site.
